Einstein and Hawking were among the best scientific minds in history. Polgar is the best female chess player in the world. People with high IQs aren’t just intelligent, they’re often highly successful, high achieving individuals.
Could this be you? People think intelligence is set in stone, but that simply isn’t true. It is possible to attain your highest IQ possible.
As Jim Kwik, Author of Mindvalley’s Superbrain Program says,
Your brain is a muscle. It’s not about mental intelligence, it’s about mental fitness.
Now, let’s begin!
What Is IQ?
IQ stands for ‘intelligence quotient,’ a concept created in 1916 by the American psychologist, Lewis Terman. During World War I, Lewis conducted the first IQ test on American soldiers.
These tests don’t just measure how much information you know. They actually analyze your brain’s capacity to learn. IQ tests examine your overall cognitive functions, including analytical thinking, short-term memory, logical reasoning, and spatial recognition.
Ranges Of IQ Scores
Since IQ tests are divided into sections to test different cognitive functions, you may find that you excel in certain sections and score lower in others. This is entirely normal and nothing to worry about. After all, we each have our own unique strengths and abilities!
Average IQ Score
The majority of people who take IQ tests score within the middle range, between 85 and 115. Over 95% of people will score below 130.
High IQ Score
An above-average IQ score is 116 or more, but that isn’t the highest IQ you can have. If you score above 130 or higher, it signals a high IQ and you’re among the 2% in the world.
What Is The Highest IQ Possible?
In a manner of speaking, there’s no maximum number to an IQ score.
There are many tests that measure intelligence, including the Stanford-Binet Intelligence Scale and the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale. Because these tests have evolved over the years, it’s difficult to compare results from different eras.
What Is The Highest IQ Ever Recorded?
What do Albert Einstein, Stephen Hawking, and Judit Polgar have in common? They all have an IQ score between 160-170, which puts them in a very select group of people: those with the highest recorded IQ scores in the world!
With no known limit to an IQ score, it makes one wonder what is the highest IQ ever and who holds the record?
That title, as recorded by the World Book of Guinness Records, went to William James Sidis. His estimated IQ score ranged between 250 and 300 points.
William James Sidis was born in New York City in 1898 and was considered a child prodigy due to his excellence in math and language. He spoke a variety of languages and studied at Harvard University at the age of 11. By the time he was 20 years old, he became a professor at age 22, he wrote the book, The Animate and the Inanimate.
Sadly, Sidis’s life turned in 1919 when he was imprisoned due to his involvement at a socialist anti-war rally. He withdrew from his academic career and took up odd jobs to make ends meet. Sidis died in 1944, at the age of 46.
Who Is The Smartest Person In The World In More Recent Times?
In more recent times, the title goes to Russian mathematician, Grigori Perelman. With an IQ of 238, Perelman is considered to be the most intelligent man in the world.
His greatest academic contribution to date is Thurston’s Geometrization Conjecture: the solution to the famously challenging mathematical hypothesis, the Poincaré Conjecture.
