Do you want to join a genius club? If the answer is yes, then we’re here to tell you all you need to know about Mensa International.
Mensa is one of the major high IQ societies in the world. These societies, as the name suggests, are organized for those with exceptional IQ scores.
But why does Mensa exist? What is its purpose? And are you eligible to join? We’re going to explain exactly how you can qualify to join Mensa International.
What Is Mensa International?
Mensa was founded in 1946 in Oxford, England by Roland Berrill, a barrister from Australia, and Dr. Lance Ware, a scientist, and lawyer from England.
Mensa was the first of its kind. And it grew quickly. Today, it has more than 134,000 members across 100 countries. Just as it was back in 1946, Mensa International remains one of the most prominent genius clubs out there.
The three purposes of Mensa include:
- Fostering intelligence for the benefit of humanity alone
- Encouraging research on intelligence regarding its characteristics, nature, and usage
- Promotion of stimulating opportunities for its members
What Does ‘Mensa’ Mean? Defining The Mensa Meaning
The word Mensa has Latin origins. The word itself means table. What does that have to do with this genius club? Well, quite a lot, actually.
Mensa is a round table society where all distinctions are believed to be irrelevant. This includes national origin, age, politics, and any other social or educational distinction. People from all around the world are welcome to join.
Where Do Mensa Members Meet?
With the incentive of providing a better society, Mensa organizes various events for its members at both the local and international levels. Once a year, a large event called the Annual Gathering is held in several countries where Mensa has formed societies, including Great Britain, the US, and Canada.
Every year the Annual Gathering is held in a different city. It’s hosted with numerous speakers, leadership workshops, children’s events, and other activities for the members to engage in and socialize.

The Mensa Brain Workout
Not sure where you fall on the IQ scale? Or worried you might not make the cut? A good place to start out is by trying the Mensa Brain Workout.
While this test won’t qualify you to join Mensa, it’s a good way to put your brain to the test and expose yourself to the type of questions you might find on the Stanford Binet or the WAIS.
No matter where you fall on the IQ scale, remember that it is possible to improve your intelligence.
There are absolutely things you can do to improve your brain. Science says that through neurogenesis and neuroplasticity, we can grow older but we can actually grow better. We can grow new brain cells and new connections and do things that are extraordinary.
— Jim Kwik, Author of Mindvalley’s Superbrain Program
All of us can improve our brains and it’s never too late to improve our mental fitness!
How Can You Score Higher In An IQ test?
Is it possible to raise your IQ score? Definitely!
Scientists have found out that the brain never grows old and new brain cells are produced till the day we die.
The one thing we need to do is keep learning. Learning connects our brain cells and improves our brain. This is precisely what you learn in Jim Kwik’s Superbrain Program: you learn to learn better.
