Call it a “gut feeling,” a “sixth sense,” or a passing thought—intuition is an immensely powerful tool.

It’s a part of who you are. And when you understand the meaning of it, you can tap into it to attract the kinds of positive people, opportunities, and answers you seek.

But… what if you can’t hear it?

Don’t fret. Although this skill is innate, it doesn’t come naturally for many people. And if you’re one of the many, then energy healer, Jeffrey Allen is here to lend a hand.

What is intuition and how to tap into it

What’s the Meaning of Intuition?

Intuition is your “natural ability or power that makes it possible to know something without any proof or evidence,” as our friends at Merriam-Webster define it.

Or as Jeffrey explains, it’s “sensing energy without physical body limitations and understanding beyond your belief system.”

Your intuition is your inner GPS, so to speak.

You just say where you want to go and the GPS tells you where to turn,” explains Jeffrey. And if there is any “traffic” or “construction” in your journey, if you missed a turn, or didn’t understand the directions at first, your intuition automatically reroutes you as needed. “The result is less mistakes and better focus on your driving, better focus on your life.”

What does that look like?

Well, with intuition, you can:

  • Feel the gentle push to take a certain path
  • The pit in your stomach that warns you when something is off
  • That subtle nod of confidence that lets you know you’re making the right decisions

Intuition requires deep listening and it requires trust and patience. It doesn’t require effort or stress.

— Jeffrey Allen, energy healer and author of Mindvalley’s Duality Quest

Most intuition is so subtle that we only remember it in hindsight, meaning it speaks in a quiet voice and it rarely pushes for attention. This might just be why it’s so often ignored or misunderstood.

The myths of intuition

For those who are just learning about intuition or haven’t yet fully understood its power, here are two misconceptions about intuition.

Myth #1: Intuition is only found in some people.
This is wrong. Period. Everybody has intuition and can learn how to tap into it.

Myth #2: It’s the sixth sense.
Unlike the first five senses (which all relate to the physical), intuition is energetic. According to Jeffrey, it’s more like “your five senses with the gloves taken off.”

Are You Intuitive?

When you think of someone who uses intuition, who do you think of? Many might think of a palm reader, an astrology reader, a fortune teller with a crystal ball, a mind reader, or perhaps a person like Patrick Jane from The Mentalist.

There are many people who claim to be intuitive, but what does that really mean and how do you determine if you are an intuitive individual?

Sonia Choquette, author of Trust Your Vibes and highly regarded expert in the field of intuition, advises starting this process by diagnosing yourself as one of two types of people: either a fifth sensory or a sixth sensory person.

5th sensory person

Many people today live fifth sensory lives where they look at the world through their ego brain. Some aspects of a fifth sensory person include:

  • Living in a sense of fear and are worried about pleasing the people around them.
  • Second guess themselves
  • Aren’t their authentic selves.
  • Often feel isolated and disconnected.

6th sensory person

A sixth sensory person has their intuition activated, understanding that their authentic self is their spirit. Some aspects of people in this category include:

  • Understanding themselves and that they are more than an ego.
  • Having opened up an entirely new world of awareness and creativity.
  • More connected to others and to the world around them both physically and spiritually.

By becoming more intuitive as sixth sensory people are, you will find yourself enjoying perks such as:

  • More creativity
  • More productivity
  • Better intuitive healing capabilities
  • Less fear and stress
  • Your focus changes from problems to solutions
  • A lightened heart
  • Better synchronicity or flow

Most importantly, your vibrations will rise and you will start to become more magnetic.

3 Ways to Tap Into Your Intuition

With a solid foundation of the basics of intuition and what your goals with your intuitive side should be, it is important to understand how you can make these changes in your life. There are a number of ways to boost your intuition.

You need to start by activating your intuition, so you can stop overthinking things and start listening to that powerful spirit inside of you. And here are a few ways to do that:

1. Meditate

Meditation is such a powerful tool, and according to the American Psychological Association, it improves both your mental and physical health. When it comes to helping build your intuition, it teaches you to be more connected to your mind, body, and spirit.

You don’t need to meditate for long periods of time either in order to see results — just give yourself 10-15 minutes per day.

2. Start wondering

Did you know that Leonardo Da Vinci used to have his students wonder 100 things out loud every day?

This wasn’t just for sh*ts and giggles, but an exercise to try to get them to think differently about the world around them, like a child.

Shifting your brain out of thinking mode and into wondering mode will help you be more open, curious, and intuitive. It makes you available for something new.

Sonia Choquette, author of Trust Your Vibes and highly regarded expert in the field of intuition, agrees and advises you to do this exercise to level up your intuitive powers.

Intuition doesn’t tell you what you want to hear. It tells you what you need to hear.

— Sonia Choquette, author of Trust Your Vibes

You don’t need to do a 100 per day; just start with finding 25 things to wonder out loud about. You don’t need to answer them, just wonder so you can expand your energy, open up to new information, and embrace the change from the inside out.

3. Ask yourself authentic questions

Just as you exercise your body, you also need to exercise your intuition. Here’s how to do it:

  • Lie in a quiet space with your feet on the floor.
  • Breathe in and up through your feet and into your heart.
  • Take a big breath out, pretending you are blowing out a candle.
  • Repeat the process and allow your attention to go to your heart.
  • Say “Ahhh” and as you do, allow all of the energy to exit your body until you feel your mind is quiet and at peace.
  •  Once you have reached this state, ask yourself authentic questions and see what your intuition tells you.

This process will not only give your intuition more “practice” but it will also help you understand the feeling of when your intuition is telling you what to do.

Remember, intuition is all about paying attention. In order to build your intuition, you don’t need to be completely re-wired, you just need to rewire your attention. Consider these practices and you will see yourself becoming more intuitive each and every day.

Unleash the Power of Your Intuition

With great intuition comes so many wonderful things. You not only make better decisions, but also you start vibrating at a much higher level and become more magnetic.
