Summary: Not many people know there are three types of intuition. Discover what they are and how to tap into their powers with the help of expert Sonia Choquette.

Call it ‘vibes,’ call it your ‘gut,’ call it your ‘hunch.’ But if you don’t call it something comfortable, you have an almost 100% chance that you will ignore it.”

Sonia Choquette’s got a point. When it comes to intuition, many of us often shrug it off, often chalking it up to mere coincidences.

The reality is, we all have this inner voice—that almost-whipser from deep within—guiding us through life’s countless decisions, both big and small.

But in this overly fast, overly saturated, overly connected life we live in, if we don’t have that intuitive edge, “we will be mediocre,” as the globally-celebrated spiritual teacher and best-selling author of books like Trust Your Vibes points out on an episode on The Mindvalley Show with Vishen. We won’t be great, and we won’t be happy, and we won’t live true.”

Now, imagine harnessing this power that aligns you not just with the decisions that make logical sense but also with those that resonate with your deepest self. That’s the power of intuition, and how much more aligned, decisive, and creative could your life become?

Ep #031 | 3 Types of Intuition And How to Identify & Use Them in Your Life | Sonia Choquette

The value of intuition in everyday life

We, as human beings, actually are endowed with six senses,” says Sonia. And it’s a feeling that can sometimes be the difference between life and death.

Take, for instance, the 9-year-old who saved his baby brother as he fell off the changing table. Or, in Vishen, the founder of Mindvalley’s case, a near miss on the road, all thanks to a hunch.

Intuition doesn’t tell you what you want to hear; it tells you what you need to hear.

Chances are, whether you knew it or not, you, too, have encountered an intuitive experience. It could be a sudden flash of insight that helps you solve a problem or a feeling in your gut that tells you to take a different route home.

Whatever it is, it can undoubtedly be a powerful tool in everyday life. Here’s how it can help:

  • Make better decisions, faster
  • Unleash creativity and innovation
  • Navigate complex situations with ease
  • Reduce stress from overthinking
  • Live a more fulfilling life

As research shows, intuition can be a powerful inner compass. One study, highlighted in Douglas Dean and John Mihalasky’s book, The Executive ESP, shows that the sixth sense is linked to business success. Their findings suggest that successful executives frequently rely on intuition for decision-making, and even found a correlation between strong intuition and financial success.

While logic provides a strong foundation, intuition offers an intriguing additional dimension. And by understanding the different facets of it, you can truly harness this remarkable inner guidance system.

3 types of intuition & how to use them, according to Sonia Choquette

What I have realized is, we have different levels of intuition and they work on different arenas of our life and they feel different,” Sonia explains.

What she’s getting at are the three types of intuition—red, green, and white. And each plays a different role in your life.

Red light intuition

The red light intuition is “the basic intuition most people have.” It’s primal and deeply rooted in your survival instincts.

It acts like a stop sign for potential danger. That could be a prickling feeling you get when something feels off, hesitating before making a risky investment, or stepping away from an unsettling situation.

Sonia Choquette’s tip to tune into your red light intuition

Honing in on the red light intuition requires you to put trust in yourself. When you get a bad vibe, don’t dismiss it.

Instead, as Sonia suggests, pay attention to an unexplainable discomfort in your gut or a change in your breathing. Learn to interpret these signals as a red light telling you to stop.

Additionally, practicing assertive communication is key. For example, if you’re out with a group and your red intuition kicks in, simply say, “Something feels wrong; let’s leave.”

Don’t be afraid to use the word “stop” to get attention. Remember, trusting your red intuition can prevent you from harm.

Green light intuition

Green light intuition is “the intuition that actually points your awareness in the direction of creative opportunity.” This is the voice that whispers ideas when you’re in the shower or suggests a novel approach to a persistent problem.

It’s the spark that ignites when you’re in a state of flow, when ideas seem to come from nowhere, yet they feel perfectly aligned with what you’re working on.

Sonia Choquette’s tip to tune into your green light intuition

To sharpen your intuition in this area, you need two things: a quiet mind and space. Here’s a simple exercise Sonia teaches to achieve this:

  1. Ground yourself. Look around and name one or two things you see. This pulls you out of your head and into the present moment.
  1. Think of your question. Formulate a question you need intuitive guidance on.
  1. Relax your body. Breathe in slowly, exhale completely, like you’re blowing out candles. Repeat this three times. This helps release tension and quiet your mind.
  1. Going down the slide. Breathe in again, then “go down the slide” with an “ahhh.” This helps shift your awareness to a receptive state.
  1. Listen for insights. Ask your authentic question—“My question is…”—10 times out loud to yourself. And pay attention to any thoughts or feelings that arise.

The more you practice this, Sonia points out, “you’re going to get [your insight]”—snaps fingers—”pretty quick.”

White light intuition

White light intuition is “the intuition of our spiritual path.” Sonia explains that it’s the voice of your higher self, nudging you towards your true purpose.

Unlike red and green intuition, which are about immediate decisions, white light intuition is about your overall life journey. It lets you know if you’re on the right track, living with integrity, authenticity, and inner peace.

Sonia Choquette’s tip to tune into your white light intuition

So how do you tap into your white light intuition? Here’s Sonia’s advice:

  1. Name your spirit. By doing so, it creates a connection with your higher self. It allows you to have an internal dialogue and tap into its wisdom. (Fun fact: Sonia’s spirit’s name is Bright Light.)
  1. Answer the question, “What does my spirit love? This refocuses your energy inward and helps you identify your true passions and purpose.
  1. Integrate your spirit. Consider what it wants and allow it to make your decisions. Then, feel the shift in your energy.
  1. Change the conversation. Instead of asking, “How are you?” start asking, “How’s your spirit today?” This simple shift encourages people to connect with their authentic selves.

Remember, the more you connect with your white light intuition, the more your spirit guides will take over, leading you on your unique path.
