How I reprogrammed my mind to succeed

For years, I kept myself broke.

Not because I lacked ambition. Not because the work wasn’t good. My business was growing. The opportunities were real. But something kept pulling me back: undercharging, second-guessing, walking away from deals that should have been easy.

It took a hypnotherapy session to find it.

I was eleven years old. My English literature teacher was one of the most extraordinary men I’d ever encountered. He made stories come alive in ways I’d never experienced. The whole class adored him. He was also perpetually depressed, struggling with alcohol, barely holding himself together after a painful divorce.

I didn’t analyze any of this as a child. I just watched. And somewhere in that watching, my brain made a connection: to be a great teacher, you have to suffer.

I never chose that belief. A confused kid absorbed a pattern from someone he loved, and it ran silently in the background of every financial decision I made for the next thirty years.

That’s the thing about the code underneath your behavior. You don’t choose it. You inherit it. And until you find it, you can grind on your habits all you want; the code always wins.

I’ve released a new video on my YouTube channel for those of you who want, and it explores the fascinating topic of installed mindsets and how, if we don’t shake out a pre-installed belief in our head, we can prevent ourselves from growing.

In this video, we cover:

The Harvard study where housekeepers lost weight and lowered their blood pressure from a single sentence without changing anything else

The belief my English teacher accidentally installed in me that kept me broke for 30 years

The refugee employee who wrote down three questions and ended up speaking at Google and the Oslo Freedom Forum

Why the lawyer who did everything right turned out to be one of the most miserable people I’ve ever met

The exact question I asked myself in the mirror on my 40th birthday and how it changed my body for the next ten years

A live, guided walkthrough of the first phase of the technique I do every single morning:

If this lands for you and you want to go deeper,  Paul McKenna, #1 world’s #1 hypnotherapist, teaches the full methodology inside his certification program. It’s the most direct path I know to doing this work at a professional level.

A special once-a-year class that happens LIVE with Paul McKenna is starting this Aug 26.
