Ep #006 | The Hidden World of Intuition in Fortune 500 Company Decision Making

To quote the renowned Steve Jobs, “Have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become.” And if intuition is good enough for visionaries like Jobs, shouldn’t we all be paying more attention to it?

Getting to Know Laura Day

So who is Laura Day exactly? The name is more than just a moniker. In the business world, it stands as a symbol of intuitive expertise, blending instinct with practical insight to appeal to executives and individuals alike.

Laura first harnessed this gift in her own life. She has since empowered thousands of others, from regular folks to corporate giants like Google and Target.

But her impact doesn’t stop there. Laura is also a best-selling author, with works like The Circle that aim to make intuition accessible to everyone. (It’s been endorsed by celebrities and thought-leaders alike.)

She’s been highlighted in an array of publications, including Newsweek and Marie Claire. What’s more, she’s appeared on major TV shows such as Good Morning America and The Oprah Winfrey Show.

So, whether you’re in a corporate boardroom or simply navigating life’s challenges, look up “Laura Day.” Her wealth of insights can surely benefit you.

What’s Laura Day’s Take On Intuition In Business?

It’s no secret that businesses love numbers. Data-driven strategies often take center stage. However, what if there’s another layer, something that can’t be measured but can make a big difference? That’s where intuition comes in.

But what is it? And why do 62% of executives rely on it to make decisions?

According to Laura, intuition is “your ability to move your attention—and your attention is your five senses—anywhere in space and time.” Simply put, it allows you to see beyond the obvious. You can anticipate challenges before they happen.

An insightful example she gives on The Mindvalley Show is when she predicted a drop in oil prices. But she also emphasizes that the CEOs she works with are already highly intuitive. They use her as a second opinion for their own gut feelings. She says, “I’m their stop gap…I am working with people who are really using me for those moments where they may be a little off the ranch.”

She also notes the collaborative aspect of this tool, saying, “People get together, they find where they match, and then they apply it to the market.”

So, it’s not just about random gut feelings. It’s about honing your senses to make smarter decisions, especially in business.

How is intuition different from impulsivity?

Making decisions on the fly happens often in business. And understanding the difference between being intuitive and being impulsive is crucial for making better decisions.

Intuition often leads you toward choices that align with your deeper values and long-term goals. It comes from a place of quiet confidence, based on your past experiences, knowledge, and innate sense. And when you follow it, you’re more likely to make choices that are beneficial for you in the long run.

Impulsivity, on the other hand, follows your instincts and usually stems from emotional reactivity. It’s when, as Laura explains, “you feel you need to act on something immediately.” Your decisions are made quickly without giving them much thought, often leading to regret or negative outcomes.

By developing self-awareness, you can more easily tell whether you’re acting out of intuition or impulsivity. And in professional settings, knowing the difference helps you avoid the pitfalls of rash decisions and enables you to trust your gut when it truly matters.

Laura Day Tips On How to Listen to Your Intuition

Learning to trust your gut can be a game-changer in both personal and professional settings. Laura offers some powerful tips on The Mindvalley Show, inspired by her book The Circle:

1. Define your intuitive senses

Everyone has, what Laura calls, a “front runner” sense that is most effective in guiding them intuitively. It could be a visual cue, a tone you hear, or even a smell that shifts in the room.

Vishen, for example, feels a pulse. In a previous sales position, he used to go through the Yellow Pages in a relaxed state of mind, waiting for a gut feeling to tell him which companies to call to sell software. By trusting his gut, he was able to double his sales, proving the power of intuition in business.

The thing is, each person’s intuitive sense is unique to them, and that’s why it’s crucial to understand which sense is your strongest. And by paying attention to your leading sense, you can sharpen your intuition effectively.

2. Know your goal(s)

Information comes at us from right, left, and center. As Laura explains, “Everyone’s getting intuitions all of the time. What intuition requires is a focus.”

According to her, whether it’s in business or personal life, the first step is to clearly define your goal. For companies, that could mean anything from making a profit to developing a new, innovative product. Knowing your goal helps you direct your intuitive senses in a way that’s effective and targeted.

This focus is where practical intuition shines. Once you have a clear goal, you can use your senses “to perceive what’s there,” be it opportunities or challenges related to that goal.

Simply put, it’s not about scattering your attention all over the place; it’s about perceiving what’s relevant to your objective.

3. Create new patterns

Once you’ve tuned into your intuition, the next step is to act on it. “Then what happens,” says Laura, “is how do we create new patterns? How do we create a new framework from what we now intuit and that addresses our goal?

In other words, feeling that gut instinct is just one part. The other part is about making real changes based on what your intuition tells you.

For example, let’s say you’ve been struggling with a big decision. Maybe you’ve even consulted with your spirit guides for extra guidance. Now, your intuition is strongly signaling a path for you to take. So, what do you do next? You create a new pattern by actually taking that path.

Whether it’s a career change, a move to a new city, or even just adopting a healthier lifestyle, acting on your intuitive insights means making fresh choices.

However, creating new patterns isn’t just about making one big leap. It’s also about the small, everyday choices that add up over time. By consistently listening to your intuition, you can gradually shape your life in a more fulfilling direction.
