How To Use EFT To Tap Into Your Inner Superhero | Jennifer Partridge

If you could tap into one superpower, what would it be?

Invisibility and flying aside, what do you really need more of in your life? The power of love? Freedom? Peace? Mindfulness? Trust? Confidence?

Whatever it may be, EFT can and will help you tap into your inner superhero. Literally.

What Is EFT?


EFT tapping therapy stands for Emotional Freedom Technique. It’s a blend of modern psychology and Chinese medicine, utilizing specific Meridian points of the body to release negative emotions.

These Meridian points are the energetic lines and zones that get blocked when trauma or emotional overwhelm of any kind arises. When we start tapping upon these main Meridian points, we help the body clear out stagnation and allow our emotions to flow through us and transcend.

Simply put, EFT is the practice of rewiring the mind, body, and spirit, as well as the emotional patterns that dictate our quality of life.

To guide us through the process, we asked EFT Master Jennifer Partridge to guide us through the step-by-step process of an Emotional Freedom Technique experience.

Step 1: Find The Tapping Points

There are 9 main Meridian points Jennifer Partridge recommends tapping on within your EFT sessions:

1 – KC: The Karate Chop Point is located at the fleshy part of the outside of your hand (either hand will do) between the top of the wrist and the base of your little finger.

2 – TOH: The Top Of The Head Point is pretty much what it says on the tin. But to be more specific, if you were to draw a line from one ear over the head to the other ear, and another line from your nose to the back of your neck, the TOH point is exactly where those two lines would intersect.

3 – EB: The Eyebrow Point is located at the beginning of the eyebrow, just above and to one side of the nose.

4 – SE: The Side Of The Eye Point should be tapped directly on the bone bordering the outside corner of the eye.

5 – UE: The Under The Eye Point lies on the bony ridge under the eyes, about 1 inch below your pupil.

6 – UN: The Under The Nose point sits on the small fleshy area between the bottom of your nose and the top of your upper lip.

7 – CH: The Chin Point is midway between the chin and the bottom of the lower lip.

8 – CB: The Collarbone Point can be found at the junction where the sternum and collarbone meet just below the U-shaped notch between the bones.

9 – UA: The Under Arm Points reside on either side of the body about 4 inches below the armpits. 

Tap these points in order from 1-9 for a couple of deep breaths per tapping zone.

DISCLOSURE: Jennifer warns that you may find this experience uncomfortable as emotions release from the body. You may experience physical releases such as yawning, crying, sighing, burping (and even passing gas!). Whatever your reaction may be, Jennifer encourages you to trust that this process is both safe and highly effective and that you’re doing exactly what you need to do to get where you want to be.

Step 2: Identify How You Feel

As you tap on the EFT points, center yourself and tune in to how you feel.

Say out loud, ‘I’ve been feeling…’ plus a word that sums up the emotion you’ve been experiencing.

For example:

‘I’ve been feeling guilty.’

Take a mental note of how strong the feeling is on a scale of 0-10. Repeat the sentence once on every single one of the 9 EFT tapping points.

The beauty of EFT is that you can truly let your imagination run wild when it comes to identifying and honoring your emotions.

You can explore your feelings further by asking questions like:

‘If this emotion had a color, what color would it be?’
‘What shape would it be?’
‘What sound would it make?’
‘Is it hard or soft…hot or cold?’
‘When was the last time I felt this?’
‘What did I really need that I didn’t receive?’

Step 3: Be Open To Loving, Accepting And Forgiving Yourself

Now repeat the following phrase as you tap on the Karate Chop Point only:

‘Even though I’ve been feeling (INSERT EMOTION), I love, accept, and forgive myself anyway.’

Even if it doesn’t feel authentic when you say it at first, keep going and repeat this phrase three times on the karate chop point.

Take a mental note of how strong the feeling is now on a scale of 0-10. The intensity of the emotion may fluctuate, but it will decrease as you continue to tap and honor how you feel.

Repeat this entire process step-by-step on points 1-9 until the strength of the feeling of block decreases, potentially to a 0/1 when you return to the karate chop point.

Step 4: What Do You Want Instead?

Once the negative emotion has dissipated, it’s time to fill in all that free space with positive energy.

What is it that you want instead? What’s that superpower that you desire the most?

As you tap the points, recite:

‘I am worthy of feeling unlimited amounts of [INSERT EMOTION/SUPERPOWER]’
‘I am ready and open to experience [INSERT EMOTION/SUPERPOWER]’

Tune in to the feeling, expand it and revel in the experience.

Congratulate yourself for taking the time to tend to your well-being.
