Energy is everywhere. You can’t see it, but you can feel it.

If you’ve ever instantly disliked someone without knowing why – or on the flip side, instantly connected with them – it’s because of the ‘vibe’ that you were both radiating. Some people give off positive vibes, others negative.

What’s important to know is that you are naturally attracted to people who give off a similar vibe to yourself. That’s why, if you’re in a negative state, you may feel more connected to people who are also negative and dislike or be repelled by people who are vibrating more positively. 

While energy can neither be created nor destroyed, it can be altered. The more conscious you are, the more you can direct your energy towards creation and connection. The less conscious you are, the more your energy can be used towards separation, stagnation, or even destruction.

It’s good to learn how to clear out negative energy within, but also in the physical spaces where you spend most of your time – usually your home as well as the office.  

What Are The Symptoms Of Negative Energy In A Body? 

Since your mind and body are deeply intertwined, your mental negativity has a physical counterpart.

Besides feeling dark and gloomy, you may have tense muscles, shallow breathing, increased blood pressure, elevated levels of adrenalin and cortisol – a classic stress response. Just like one bad day, a little stress here, and there is nothing to be concerned about.

Chronic stress, however, can cause serious health problems from cardiovascular diseases to different mental health problems. 

Some of the symptoms of negative energy in your body can include: 

  1. Restlessness
  2. Sleepiness
  3. Nervousness
  4. Headaches
  5. Stomach aches
  6. Fatigue and exhaustion
  7. Heavy breathing
  8. Confusion and tension
  9. Sudden mood swings
  10. Anxiety or depression

The question is, how to get rid of negative energy? 

How Do You Release Negative Energy? 

If you find yourself surrounded by negative energy with no light at the end of the tunnel, don’t panic. There are plenty of things you can do to make your life more joyful.

1. Cleanse Your Home

Every time you get rid of clutter, dirt, and dust, or organize your belongings, you’re restoring order. When you open the windows, you let the energy flow freely.

A clean, orderly space feels light and bright; lightness and brightness are high-vibrating energies. Your home and workplace often tend to be reflections of your own inner state. 

A couple of other techniques you could try: 

  • Rearrange the space – move your furniture and belongings so that there would be as much free and open space as possible. 
  • Break up negative energy patterns by walking through every room and clapping loudly or making loud noises with drums, gongs, even pots and pans. Have you ever noticed how light and fresh everything seems after a thunderstorm? It’s the same concept!
  • Use a small bowl of sea salt in the northeast and southwest corners of your home. This Feng Shui practice helps balanced chi (energy) to flow through your home. 
  • Add living plants to your spaces. Remove dead or dying plants immediately, though – and be careful with this technique if you have a “black thumb.”
  • Burn incense. Palo Santo, a type of fragrant wood that’s native to South America, is thought to be a vigorous energy cleanser. Light one end of a stick and spread the smoke.
  • Smudge your home with sage. Sage is one of the most widely used herbs to clear negative energy with. If you have asthma or are sensitive to smoke, clear your space using essential oils and smell of plants instead.
  • Bring in some crystals and place them strategically. One of the stones to place by your front door is black tourmaline – to keep negativity out and abundance in.

2. Spend Time In Nature

Being outdoors is fun, but more importantly, nature is good for your brain, body, and soul. According to research from the University of East Anglia, exposure to greenspace reduces the risk of type II diabetes, cardiovascular disease, premature death, preterm birth, stress, and high blood pressure. 

Forest bathing is already popular as a therapy in Japan, with participants spending time in the forest either sitting or lying down, or walking around. Considering that spending time in nature can boost your energy, increase your vitality and resilience, relieve stress, inspire creativity, lower risks of anxiety and depression, improve memory and cognitive function, next time you’re feeling bad juju, instead of binging Netflix or complaining to your friend, go for a walk instead.

3. Smile And Laugh

Sometimes your joy is the source of your smile, but sometimes your smile can be the source of your joy.

Laughter is the best medicine for a reason. It’s not just a sentimental or aesthetic activity, there’s true magic in your smile.

Smiling and laughing cause physiological changes to take place in the body. Every time you smile, a unique cocktail of neuropeptides is being released that help to fight off the effects of stress, lower blood pressure, and act as an overall mood-lifter. Smiling triggers happy healing hormones such as ecstatic endorphins and immune-boosting killer T-cells, whereas frowning triggers stress hormones.

The positive effects of a smile make it difficult to sustain any negativity which means you can’t help but improve your mood and vibration by smiling. 

4. Meditate

There are thousands of studies that have shown how meditation can positively impact your life. Whether it’s by reducing stress, improving sleep, increasing focus, or improving your relationships, it’s definitely worth finding a style that works for you. 

One of the best, most powerful ways to get rid of negative energy fast is loving-kindness meditation. Love being the highest vibration, infusing yourself and your living and workspaces with a loving meditation where you focus on radiating love to everyone you know can only do good.

5. Assume Others Are Doing the Best They Can

There’s no getting around that – for whatever reason, some people are sometimes awful to deal with. However, you don’t have to allow their negativity to impact you, and once your interaction with them is over, you don’t have to carry their negativity. You don’t have to lower your vibration (and thoughts, words, and actions) to their level. You can remain above all their negativity. 

Instead of criticizing, blaming, or judging someone, try to assume that people are always doing the best they can with the resources they have.

This belief can radically change your relationship with yourself and with others. Your client who doesn’t reply even to your follow-up e-mail, your friend who bails on a night out you were eagerly looking forward to, your boss who doesn’t remember your child’s birthday… It’s easy to believe that people are trying to disappoint you on purpose. It’s very likely that if you don’t disappoint others on purpose, others are not doing that to you either.

But what if every person you know, including yourself, is doing the best they can?

When you work from this assumption, your life becomes happier and you become kinder and more compassionate.
