The biggest thing we are doing to our children right now is bashing their ego…
— Vishen Lakhiani
In this 4-minute video, Vishen Lakhiani, founder of Mindvalley, discusses a powerful omission in our parenting.
He explains why we can never give too much love to a child or encourage too much self-love — and delves into the biggest piece of advice he received from parenting psychologist, Shelly Lefkoe:
No matter what action you take with your child, ask yourself, “What beliefs or models of reality is my child going to take away from this situation or action?”
What could be going on in your child’s mind may not be your intention as a parent for your child to think or feel. Negative beliefs that may form can become undetected or unresolved, which may spiral into even more traumatic feelings of unworthiness and low self-esteem.
But this is what we do, unintentionally, to our kids.
We may be sowing the seeds of our children’s lack of self-confidence, self-love, and ultimately, the feeling that they are not enough.
