Do You Possess The Rare Personality Type Of The INTJ Mastermind?

by Mindvalley May 24, 2019

Every once in a while, you run into that one person who has everything planned out. These masterminds are people of extraordinary intellect. They’ve looked at the big picture, accounted for the variables, and are now watching as the pieces fall into place.

These remarkable individuals always attract attention. In fact, there have been many scientific efforts that work to define and understand this personality type.

However, the term mastermind can also have another meaning.

The term mastermind dates back to the 1920s and refers to a gathering of people who guide each other toward a common purpose.

Regardless of which of the two meanings you look at, a mastermind can be a powerful force in a person’s life.

What Is The Definition Of A Mastermind?

There are two primary ways to look at this term:

Personality type: The INTJ mastermind

Masterminds are the supreme planners. They are the chess players who not only think about their next five moves but also their opponent’s.

If you were looking for a mastermind synonym, you could feasibly use the word genius.

But there’s a lot more to this persona than simple intellect.

In fact, psychologists have been trying to unravel the mastermind personality type for many years. And the Keirsey Temperament Sorter is an excellent example.

The KTS is a well-known personality questionnaire which can be used to identify a person’s temperament. There are 16 types in total. Each type is a combination of four letters.

The mastermind, according to the KTS, is the INTJ.

INTJs are unmatched when it comes to planning and contingencies. They are logical, intuitive, and adaptive. They are not the most eager to take center stage, but when they do – they are extremely effective.

INTJs are hard-workers, passionate problem-solvers, and quick to make decisions. As such, it’s no surprise that people look up to them.

But, this personality type is also incredibly rare, as Keirsey believed only 1-2 % of the population has this personality type.

Gatherings: Hill’s collective masterminds

For the other use of this term, we’ll turn to Napoleon Hill, a notable American author. In his books, “The Law of Success” and “Think and Grow Rich”, Hill defined this term as two or more people who are working in perfect harmony and with a definite purpose.

He went on to explain that whenever two people come together in this way, they create an external force, a separate mind of sorts. These “Master Minds” are the representation of the creative forces that are formed in this way and what allows people to solve the problems they couldn’t tackle on their own.

What Is A Mentor And How Does This Relate To Masterminds?

If we only look at the basics, it’s not particularly hard to define “mentor” as a term. This is an individual who uses their experience and knowledge to guide and advise another person.

It’s also not hard to see how someone with the personality of a mastermind would make a fine mentor, as many of the defining traits of INTJs would make them excellent instructors and teachers.

But even Hill’s interpretation of mastermind is connected to the concept of mentorship. Mastermind groups are a way for people to mentor each other, particularly if certain members stand out in terms of experience.

Creativity is one of the threads that connect these two definitions of the mastermind.

For one, it explains how those with the INTJ personality type can demonstrate a creative spark across a number of fields. And second, the key to the success of mastermind groups is the creativity they promote.

In the end, masterminds are to be treasured. Whether you personally know an INTJ or are a part of a mastermind group, you have a great opportunity to enrich your life.

There’s a reason that so many brilliantly talented, naturally creative, intelligent and capable people never reach their potential, and it is, quite simply, a lack of direction.

You can have the most expensive, fastest car in the world, but if you set off without a clear idea of where you’re going, then the rusty old Beatle with a map and compass will beat you there every time.
