All of us are born into a world where certain things are possible — but how do we exceed those limitations and create our own opportunities?
Luckily, it’s quite simple.
And it can all be explained through the story behind one simple musical instrument: the piano.
Tom Chi is the inventor and co-founder of Google X, and his innovative ideas on human development, leadership, and entrepreneurship have influenced thousands of people all over the world.
How Your Palette Of Being Can Inspire People
In this short 5-minute clip from A-Fest Mexico, Tom shares the secret behind crafting your life into a living masterpiece — and, by doing so, inspiring change on a global level.
You’ll discover how you can use the “palette of being” to create your own living masterpiece and how your authenticity can push humanity forward.
As Tom says, “Every single one of us is born into a world where particular things are possible.”
But beyond that lies the true opportunity — that this world we live on changes. You, just by being yourself, can bring more things that are possible into our reality.
You can choose whether you want to spend more time with family, how you approach your work and your community, and where to grow. All of these choices and more add up to your particular “palette of being.”
By consciously creating your own “palette of being,” you can inspire the people you’re presently around and pave the way for those that come after you. This is exactly what all of the people we call “role models” have done.
People like Steve Jobs, J.K. Rowling, Gandhi, and Oprah Winfrey created new roles and ways to serve society. And they have inspired generations to do the same.
The benefits of being yourself
Choosing a life that is an authentic fit for you and being your best self has its benefits, for others but also for you. These include:
- Your presence becomes powerful;
- When you like yourself, others will like you, too;
- When you respect your own life choices, you give permission to others to do the same;
- You will breathe easier by giving yourself the space to be authentic;
- You will spend less time worrying about things that don’t matter in favor of caring for the things that matter;
- Focusing less on what other people do gives you more time to dream your own dream;
- Your friends, admirers, and the audience will love you for the real you.
Of course, there’s always a fine line between self-acceptance and self-complacency. The people we admire always toe that line. They know what they are proud of, and they also know what they want to cultivate in themselves. The two go more hand-in-hand then we realize.
That’s why what Tom says is so amazing: His stories and ideas will encourage you to be more of what you already are, instead of being less of somebody else.
