What Is Considered A Blended Family?
Let’s start looking into the heart of things with an analytical mindset. Hence, with the blended family definition.
What is a blended family?
Generally, blended families, also known as mixed families, complex families or reconstituted families, are those that are comprised of two partners where one or both of them have children from their previous marriages.
Eventually, they may also go on to having children with each other, adding more chemistry into the stepfamily structure.
A blended family definition can also become something like, “a strange world where the children encounter the new scenarios of facing their step-parent, step-siblings, and step-grandparents and other relatives.”
Without proper communication, counseling, and understanding of the new situation, things can become overwhelming for all the parties involved
What Is A Blended Family Structure?
As we have already talked about, blended families can have a varied number of unique structures.
- The blended family can have children from one or both the stepfamilies involved.
- It may or may not have children from the new relationship.
- The parents involve may be legally married or just decided to live together.
- The children may or may not be legally adopted by the new non-biological parent involved.
With time, blended families are getting more common. In a Pew Research Center study, it was found out that in 2013, four out of ten marriages involved remarriages.
That means, 40% of total marriages involve one or both partners who were married previously.
