Of Minimalism and Mathematics
August 8th, 2007
Hi, I am the mathematician here at MindValley.
Whenever we start on a new algorithm, I listen to all the non-mathematicians toss ideas on how to solve a problem (which I otherwise am paid to solve with some high-brow maths).
When they (and myself, in a non-mathematical capacity) are done with coming up with simple (but not simplistic) workarounds there are two areas where I get to apply my high-brow maths *wink*:
- How to quantify and automate the ideas.
- How to implement anything mathematically which otherwise is not possible heuristically (let’s not start on heuristic mathematics).
And while making the algorithm I take two things into considerations:
- How to eliminate as much if-then statements and for-loops as possible.
- How to use mathematics to save the computer the grunt work (although it is meant to do precisely that)- so that the application is lean (and mean).
I will give you a simple example from real life.
Mike, Vishen, and MindValley History Exposed In Interview
May 27th, 2007
In an exclusive interview on LOS CREADOR, Vishen was probed for the real story behind the story.
Juicy questions include…. How did you and Mike meet? Is there any interesting anecdote involving you two?
What’s the next big thing we can expect from the Mindvalley stable?
You can read the interview here. Admittedly, no one was unclothed in the interview process.
Your Vanity Exposed!

- It looks like I have an arm growing out of my neck..
- Is that the best picture you have of me?
- Oi! Reshoot my pic?
Well, this is as good as it gets…

Why Are We On A Malaysian Reality TV Show?
April 18th, 2007
Donald Trump & Simon Cowell take a backseat as Mike, Vishen and Jiangti of MindValley judge the business presentation of a Malaysian boy… if MindValley likes him enough, he is one step closer to $50,000 to kickstart the business / career of his/her dreams.
Will the boy impress the MindValley team? Watch the video and tell us!
UPDATE: Hannu’s got some “behind the scenes” pics, and a writeup (in Finnish) here.
We Take Our Fights Outside The Office
April 16th, 2007
We made a vow to meet at the break of dawn. TheCurve. Sunday.
What for? To fight. A 9km run.
Was it for charity? No. Was it in support of a marketing ploy by an oil company? Indirectly. But as far as Mike, Vishen, Talat, Khailee, David, Katalina, and Khalid were concerned… it was a fight… to the finish line.

The trash talking wasn’t about saliva. It was about bloodshed.
To add to the carnage, we were up against their own worst enemies… our out-of-shape bodies!
The results? Khailee has the full story, pictures and the works, on his blog.

February 26th, 2007
We love rewarding hardworking members of our team.
The first person to give in to fatigue, or insanity, gets a bag of rice. That’s right folks. You can share it with the family, too. We also care about our employee’s families.
Here at MindValley, we’re serious about treating employees well. Just like illegal sweatshops in China.

Sacred Curly Bamboo Plant Cannot Be Saved
January 23rd, 2007
Today, while doing his morning in-office exercise, Vishen knocked over our sacred curly bamboo plant.
We did everything we could ( Ctrl+Z , Google it, put it on ClickMuse etc…) but nothing worked.
The broken glass and scattered pebbles are now a permanent feature of our office.
